The Grade 10 Drama students were given Community Theatre Projects do do for their practical examination.

They were asked to choose a social issue from within the school community.

They then had to research this issue and  some possible solutions.

They then had to present their findings in a dramatic theme programme.

 

Topics chosen were:

bullying, Girl Power (how girls need to stick up for eachother and not be trapped in gender stereotyping) Cyber Bullying, You are who you are, and Gossip.

 

 

We were fortunate to have one of the groups present their theme programme at a Grade 10 Assembly.

Lesson:    Applied Technology

 

GRADE 9 CROCHETED BLANKETS  - Teacher in Charge -  Miss Sharon Daly

 

In the 2nd term of 2014, as part of Technology, the Grade 9 learners of WGHS crocheted squares for blankets. They had been taught basic crochet stitches in grade 8 Technology. They were instructed to each crochet two squares to specific measurements. They were also instructed to each decorate one square in an appropriate manner. Some squares had to be redone due to strange shapes, stitches etc. The squares were assessed, then delivered to Robyn Eastwood, a friend of a WGHS educator.  Mrs Eastwood used crochet stitches to join the squares into single-bed blankets. Everyone who saw and felt they the blankets agreed that they were both warm and beautiful. These blankets were displayed in the Media Centre for a while. They were then delivered to a welfare organisation (Hillcrest branch of Society of St Vincent de Paul) from where they will be delivered to needy children in the Valley of 1000 Hills.
